Script Writing

The person who writes the script for the film is known as the Script Writer. The director uses the script to help plan how the film will be made and the actors use the script to help them learn their lines. Each Script consists of scenes. A scene is where the action of the story takes place. For example. In the film "I'm a goner" (click play on the video clip to the left), Sam is picked up from the classroom in the first scene; Sam and Mam driving to the dentist in the car is another scene. Each scene begins with a heading telling us where things are happening, when they are happening, and whether it is inside or outside.

Example: EXT - MOUNTAIN - DAY. This means that the scene is happening on a mountain during the day. Each scene also includes a description, details of characters' actions, and details of the location. IN this video clip you can see both the script and the film side by side. Pay close attention to how the students broke up the scenes in each film. For further information on creating a lesson for the classroom on Script Writing click here. This is also a fantastic lesson on helping the children come up with an idea of their script in the first place.
