Specific aims and objectives

This Online Course is designed to introduce the medium of film into the Primary School Curriculum. It presents teachers with a series of lessons geared to developing and promoting the teachers appreciation of, understanding of and response to film. It also provides teachers with a practical guide to delivering film theory and practice into a classroom environment. FÍS can enhance the creative and educational learning experiences of children and provide them with direct involvement in the learning process. The project will emphasise the engagement of children in both artistic expression and response to the medium. Specifically, project activities will help those involved to develop key skills in communication, social and personal awareness, problem solving, investigation and analysis, critical thinking, inquiry, and and interaction. This Online Course has been designed to help the teacher achieve the above learning goals.

The objectives can be summarised as follows:

• Promote teacher's appreciation of, and response to, the medium of film
• Give teachers the opportunity to explore the film-making process
• Focus on learning through film exploration and the arts
• Develop the professional skills of teachers in facilitating film in relation to arts and media activities
• Contribute to models of good practice for the use of film as a learning resource in Primary Schools
